Aspen Avionics TECH NOTE 07-15-2008

Aspen Avionics released a tech note today regarding their Evolution MFD line with the following topics:

1.  EFIS MASTER switch from Optional to Highly Recommended An “EFIS MASTER” switch or switch breaker to the PFD should be installed so the PFD can remain off during engine start. Use of the EFIS MASTER switch will ensure that electrical spikes and interrupts that can accompany engine start will not damage the system or affect the long-term reliability of the equipment.  The use of the EFIS MASTER is highly recommended.
2. PFD is powered by Battery Bus (not Avionics Bus)The PFD must be wired to the Battery Bus as specified in the Installation Manual.  This assures compliance with the STC and Aircraft Flight Manual Supplement. The ACU is powered from the avionics bus.
3. RSM mounting locationsThe preferred RSM mounting location is aft of the baggage or aircraft cabin as shown in the EFD1000 installation manual.  Mounting of the RSM over the cabin should only be considered if the preferred mounting location is impractical.  RSM magnetometer magnetic interference will cause attitude and heading performance issues.
4. Old Install Manual RevisionsPlease discard any installation manual prior to Revision C.  A-01-126-00 Rev C is the existing and only approved installation manual.
