Garmin® GWX 70 Doppler Weather Radar now compatible with G600/G500/G500H

gwx70The GWX 70 is now compatible with the G600/G500/G500H via the most recent software service bulletin (GWX 70 2.05). This enables  a GWX 68 level of functionality with the GWX 70 hardware platform. The GWX 70 is a technologically advanced weather radar that collects real-time precipitation intensity to provide the pilot with the tactical weather information needed to help avoid severe weather. The GWX 70’s compact, all-in-one antenna/receiver/transmitter is designed for easy installation in a wide variety of aircraft. Available antenna sizes include 10, 12 and 18 inch antennas.

No need for Magnetron tubes With its advanced solid-state transmitter design eliminating the need for life limited magnetron tubes, the Garmin GWX 70 comprises the very latest and most reliable technology in onboard weather radar. A future software upgrade will bring full GWX 70 functionality to the versatile G500/G600/G500H platform.

Doppler-capable
The GWX 70’s Doppler-capable weather avoidance tool combines excellent range and adjustable scanning profiles with precision target definition — for accurate, easy-to-interpret, weather analysis in the cockpit. With pilot- adjustable horizontal scan angles of up to 90°, you can easily focus scanning on the areas you want to watch, while vertical scanning lets you focus on storm tops, gradients and cell build-up at various altitudes. Plus, Weather Attenuated Color Highlight (WATCH™) can identify areas beyond the radar’s capability that may contain even more hazardous areas of precipitation.

Display Compatibility
In most installations, the GWX 70 is a direct replacement for the GWX 68 or a great replacement option for any aging radar. It is compatible with a breadth of Garmin displays, including the GTN 750/725 series touch screen avionics, G1000 integrated flight deck, the GMX 200, MX 20 and now the G500/G600/G500H. Available features will differ for each display. Garmin provides full-feature support on the GTN products with GTN software version 3.0, which is available soon. The GMX200/MX20 will support GWX 68-like capabilities via the ARINC 708 interface, and there are no plans for advanced features. There is not an enablement cost associated with the G600 to display the GWX 70’s standard features (G500 and G500H will leverage the GWX 68/70 Radar Enablement card). When available for G500/G600/G500H, the advanced features can be purchased as an additional option. For more information, please contact me:
