Aspen Avionics Tech Note 2009-01

EFD1000 INTERNAL BATTERY PROCEDURES

Effective immediately, Aspen Avionics will begin shipping all EFD1000 PFDs with the internal battery disconnected. This action has been taken to prevent inadvertent discharge of the internal battery, associated effects on battery circuit logic and perceived failures.
The internal battery can be unintentionally discharged a number of ways including:
  1. Pushing the “REV” button prior to installing the EFD1000 (causes the EFD1000 to power up on battery)
  2. Insufficient external power (or low aircraft main battery voltage) supplied to the EFD1000 during post installation testing.

It is recommended that the battery remain disconnected during shipment, storage, installation, configuration, preliminary testing and any necessary debugging.
